i love the look of films shot on 16 mm, but boy does it take a lot of patience to operate said cameras. it's not just a matter of turning the camera on and "we're rolling." you've got to measure the distance between the subject and the camera, figure out the light exposure and adjust accordingly, make sure the speed of the film is set correctly, adjust the diopter to your eye, etc....it just takes a lot of work. but it is, no doubt, a labor of love.
i am forever thankful that i have an opportunity to continue my education and have hands-on training with such cool cameras. i have developed an even deeper respect for the filmmakers who made films before the advent of the digital age. it is just a whole new ballgame now.
wish me luck as i make my way through this semester and towards my final film project. yikes!
